Quite simply, John Lennon recorded Rock‘N’Roll in order not to be sued. Morris Levy, owner of the publishing on You Can't Catch Me, agreed not to call in m’learned friends over the.

Jul 13,  · But based on this thread, I hunted down a copy of the "Rock 'n' Roll" album with the four bonus tracks (not sure about the year being - but I'm pretty sure the mastering is the same for all versions with the four extra tracks). Listening, to the CD, it felt like a completely new album to me. While that might be upsetting to some.

As part of the settlement, Lennon included a rendition of "You Can't Catch Me" on his album of cover versions, Rock 'n' Roll. Cover versions of the song were also recorded by Sleepy LaBeef for a single, by The Rolling Stones for their album The Rolling Stones No. 2, and by The Blues Project for their album Projections.

But a gorgeous run through Lloyd Price's "Just Because" wraps up the album in fine style, while a trip through "You Can't Catch Me" contrarily captures a playful side that Lennon rarely revealed on vinyl. The remainder of the album was cut a year later with Lennon alone at the helm, and the mood remains.

Rock n Roll contains some great covers by John Lennon and his band. Stand By Me is a classic and a great interpretation. Slippin and Slidin is brilliant as is Peggy Sue. Angel Baby that is on the remastered CD but not on the original album is also great. Yoko Ono deserves huge compliments, along with people like Allan Rouse for the job they.

Of the tracks that were done in Los Angeles, four made it onto the Rock ‘n’ Roll album – "Bony Moronie," "Just Because" and two Chuck Berry songs, "Sweet Little Sixteen" and ironically the catalyst for the album, "You Can’t Catch Me." Everything else was recorded and mixed in New York with John taking over as the sole producer.
